Advanced Certificate in Coaching Sport and Fitness
The course is designed for learners to develop knowledge and skills for further study and/or a career in sport and fitness. The course supports a daily programme of sports and fitness activities working alongside Active Schools and incorporates SQA units at SCQF level 6-7. A key element of this course is experiential learning on practical coaching/fitness placements, which are tailored, wherever possible, to meet individual career aspirations of the individual learner. The course also develops knowledge and skills in the following areas; Exercise and Fitness (NPA): Sports Science and Sports Performance.
A range of National 5s (grade C or above) in English, PE or a Science or successful progression from a relevant full-time sport course are required. Relevant industry experience will also be considered. Suitable applicants will be invited to outline their sporting aptitude, academic progress and sporting career aspirations at interview, which includes conducting a 10-minute coaching session and completion of an extended writing task. PVG Scheme Membership is a mandatory requirement for placement.
Method of Assessment
Variety of assessment tools: portfolio development, practical coaching ability, written assignments, presentations & successful work placement.
Successful learners may progress to HNC in Sports Coaching and Development or Fitness, Health and Exercise. Learners will be well positioned to access employment and/or voluntary opportunities within sport and fitness.
