Certificate in Applied Science (SCQF Level 5-6)
This course contains mandatory topics at Higher level covering areas of Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Communications. Learners will also develop research and practical skills throughout the course. This course will provide the basis to progress onto studying science at HNC level. The course would suit learners with National 5 qualifications in science subjects who would like to progress onto HNC Applied Science or related course.
A minimum of two National 5 qualifications (or equivalent) in Maths and either Chemistry or Biology at grade C or above. Consideration will be given to applicants with other relevant qualifications. Applicants should have a desire to work towards entry into HNC level or a career in a science discipline.
Method of Assessment
There is no end of course test but completion of each unit is through end of unit assessment and submission of lab reports.
Successful completion of the course with satisfactory attendance allows entry to HNC Applied Sciences and then progression to university. It also provides qualifications for employment as a science technician.
