Access to Horticulture (SCQF Level 3)
Course Content
A very hands-on, basic programme of study. Subjects will include: plant propagation; tree and shrub planting; hard landscaping; plant maintenance; grounds maintenance; and horticultural machinery. This course is project-based including various relevant career visits, introduction to employability skills, communication, numeracy and IT.
Entry Requirements
No formal entry requirements, however applicants must undergo an interview and be able to demonstrate the ability to work at SCQF level 3/Access 3. Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in all weathers and work as part of a team on practical, physically demanding tasks.
Method of Assessment
Many assessments are carried out through practical tasks. Theoretical elements are continuously assessed. There is no end of year final assessment.
Future Prospects
Progression to Level 4 or 5 National Certificate in Horticulture. Successful learners may apply for apprenticeships with local authorities or landscape construction firms.
