Zoo Animal Behaviour and Welfare
Course Content
A project-based course requiring completion of a research task at Camperdown Wildlife Centre including Animal Survival Behaviour and Behaviour and Welfare of Animals in Zoos leading to a Level 6 National Progression Award in Zoo Animal Behaviour and Welfare. Learners will also achieve accreditation for research skills, problem solving and digital media elements in producing a documentary and video diary. Numeracy and Communication elements also feature to ensure candidates are equipped with the required skills to successfully complete the end project.
Entry Requirements
Evidence of being self-motivated and driven. A minimum of National 5s at grade C (or equivalent) in Biology, Maths, ICT and English would be preferred or successful completion of a relevant National Certificate including Core Skills at SCQF level 5. References and evidence of excellent attendance will be required.
Method of Assessment
Continuous assessment. Production of a video diary/documentary and short report.
Future Prospects
Successful learners may wish to progress onto HNC Animal Care or use the qualification as a stepping-stone towards careers in animal/zoo keeping.
