City & Guilds Level 3 MA Maintenance and Repair
Topics covered: automotive health and safety; skills in materials, fabrication, tools and measuring; devices used in the automotive environment; routine vehicle maintenance; engines and related systems; vehicle transmission systems; vehicle electrical systems; chassis and associated systems; automotive mechanical, lubrication and cooling system units and components; automotive underpinning knowledge and skills; hands-on workshop sessions. Essential skills are also a mandatory part of any MA framework and the following will be studied at SCQF Level 5 as part of the course: Numeracy, communication, working with others, problem solving and information technology. The theory elements are assessed by on-line multi-choice tests. There are also a series of practical assignments and the completion of a portfolio of evidence.
Candidates must be employed within the motor vehicle industry. All candidates will be interviewed with their employer to ensure correct criteria is met.
Method of Assessment
Attendance at college one day per week and work-based assessment carried out in the workplace by college assessors.
Progression to technician level in the motor vehicle industry or other employment opportunities.
