Access to Community, Education and Humanities (SWAP)
Requires you to have been out of full time education for 3 years (if highest level of study is SCQF level 5) or for 5 years (if highest level of study is SCQF level 6 or above). Programme includes units at SCQF level 6, National or Application Maths at SCQF Level 5 and a Preparation for Higher Education class. 18 hours in college plus self-directed study of 10 hours per week. Subjects include History, Politics, Sociology, Psychology and Geography. Mandatory subjects: Maths, English/communication, ICT and Prep for HE, including Developing Skills for Personal Effectiveness and Working With Others. There are no formal entry requirements, however all applicants will be interviewed. Experience and entry level will be assessed through tests (e.g. written exercise and mathematics/Numeracy tests). A detailed personal statement and satisfactory reference are mandatory.
Method of Assessment
Open and closed book assessments. Possible option to sit final SQA exams but this will be dependent on in-class performance, attendance and results.
Successful completion of the programme may lead to opportunities on degree programmes at university (e.g. Primary Education, Social Work, Community Learning and Development, Social Sciences and Humanities).
