Cooking up a storm!

We caught up with Ben Dingwall, our Modern Apprenticeship lead and lecturer within our hospitality sector to hear his thoughts on the importance of education and industry working together.

This helps us understand their needs and stay relevant to sector trends so we can provide a quality and industry-ready workforce for the future.

“It’s very important for the College to collaborate and build excellent relationships with our industry partners. This helps us understand their needs and stay relevant to sector trends so we can provide a quality and industry-ready workforce for the future.”

The Modern Apprenticeship scheme within the hospitality department has really grown over the past few years, with the close relationship between the College and The WeeCOOK Kitchen in Carnoustie being at the heart of this success and growth. Young Paul Curran is the newest recruit for our MA scheme from The Wee Cook and is about to start his apprenticeship in Food and Beverage service. Paul is the fourth MA from The Wee Cook and will be joining two of his work colleagues already studying their professional cookery course with us.

A Modern Apprenticeship route is a great way for young people to earn while they learn which benefits the employer as well as the employee.

Hayley, owner of Wee Cook, says,
“The D&A College team has been a brilliant support for our apprentices and for myself as a business owner. It’s important having the peace of mind that the future and development of my workforce is in good hands.”
