Every little helps . . .
3 November 2017
. . . and when it comes to finding a job that phrase couldn’t be truer than for those taking part in Dundee and Angus College’s recent bespoke retail academy
Take a little bit of encouragement, mix it with some solid training, add in a sprinkling of confidence-building and you’ve got a real recipe for success.
The ‘master bakers’ in this collaboration were Tesco, Job Centre Plus and D&A College, working together on an initiative designed to meet Tesco’s up and coming in-store recruitment programme in preparation for the Christmas rush.
This consisted of a week of intensive customer service and retail environment training followed by a one-week work placement within a Tesco store.
The course began with an initial information session and selection process led by the college and Tesco and held within the Job Centre. During the college week the candidates worked towards a nationally recognised qualification to add to their CV. An impressive 92% of those who successfully completed the programme moved into work with Tesco.
A great result all round and just one example of Dundee and Angus College’s Future Talent initiative which enables businesses to recruit, retain and grow their future workforce. Over the last year the college has supported more than 800 apprenticeships, and upskilled staff within around 650 businesses.
