Candidates must be employed within the motor vehicle industry. All candidates will be interviewed with their employer to ensure correct criteria is met.

Automotive health and safety
Devices used in the automotive environment
Routine vehicle maintenance
Engines and related systems
Vehicle transmission systems
Vehicle electrical systems
Chassis and associated systems
Lubrication and cooling system units and components
Automotive underpinning knowledge and skills
There are also a series of practical assignments and the completion of a portfolio of evidence. More information on the MA Automotive Framework can be found on the Skills Development Scotland (SDS) website.
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following qualification: City & Guilds: SVQ 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair at SCQF Level 5 GC9Y 22
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following core skills:
Communication SCQF Level 4
Numeracy SCQF Level 4
Information Technology SCQF Level 4
Working with Others SCQF Level 4
Problem Solving SCQF Level 4
The programme should take 2 years to complete. Candidates will be work-based and are reviewed by an assessor every 10-13 weeks throughout the duration of the programme. Candidates will attend College once a week on a day-release basis.
