Individuals must be in continuous employment in a Children and Young people setting for a minimum of 16 hours per week (paid or voluntary) with a minimum of 3 months' experience. They must have a sound understanding of current guidance and frameworks, legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the work setting. Selection for the course will be by interview.
This is a work-based qualification and all evidence produced must be in relation to the individual's job role and responsibility. The award is made up of 6 units, 4 of which are mandatory.
The mandatory units are as follows:
Support effective communication
Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals
Support the safeguarding of children
Develop your own knowledge and practice

Each apprentice is required to achieve the following qualification: SVQ 3 Social Services Children & Young People GH5W 23
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following core skills:
Communication SCQF Level 6
Working with Others SCQF Level 6
Problem Solving SCQF Level 6
Information and Communication Technology SCQF Level 5
Numeracy SCQF Level 5
The programmes should take 18 months to complete. Candidates will be work-based and are reviewed by an assessor every 10-13 weeks throughout the duration of the programme.
