To undertake this award individuals must be in employment in a social and/or health care setting for a minimum of 16 hours per week (paid or voluntary) with a minimum of 3 months' experience. Individuals must have a sound understanding of The National Care Standards, Scottish Social Services Council Codes of Practice, legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the work setting. Selection for the course will be by interview.
This is a work-based qualification and all evidence produced must be in relation to the individual's job role and responsibility. The award is made up of 6 units, 4 of which are mandatory. The mandatory units are as follows:
Support effective communication
Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals
Develop your own knowledge and practice
Support the safeguarding of individuals
In addition to the above, 2 further units must be chosen from a number of optional units. More information on the MA Social Services and Healthcare Framework can be found on the Skills Development Scotland (SDS) website.
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following qualification: SVQ 2 Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 6 GH5Y 22
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following core skills:
Communication SCQF Level 5
Working with Others SCQF Level 5
Problem Solving SCQF Level 5
Information and Communication Technology SCQF Level 4
Numeracy SCQF Level 4
The programmes should take 1 year to complete. Candidates will be work-based and are reviewed by an assessor every 10-13 weeks throughout the duration of the programme.
