Modern Apprenticeship – Business Administration
“It was amazing how pressured I felt at school to go to university. Most of my friends went, but I knew it just
wasn’t for me.”
Twenty-year-old Chloe Hendrie is close to completing SVQ Level 3 of a Modern Apprenticeship in Business Administration at Dundee and Angus College. Throughout the programme she has learnt a variety of skills including customer service, funding knowledge and general administrator duties. Now, as her friends are preparing to graduate, she believes she is sitting pretty, having not only completed her qualification, but with a job to show for it as well.
“Doing a Modern Apprenticeship meant I not only earned money while I was learning, I gained valuable work experience. My friends who are just about to graduate will not only have debt to cope with, they will have to work hard to find a job.”
Chloe is now working part-time at the college in administration and part-time in student services as a childcare and accommodation officer and is no longer a Modern Apprentice.
“It’s worked out perfectly for me as I’ve been able to work in both admin and also bring those skills to a different area of the college. If I were making this choice again between college or university and a Modern Apprenticeship, I wouldn’t hesitate. It’s an MA every time.”
