MA Level 3 Business and Administration
Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are required to undertake this work-based qualification. Candidates must be employed in a suitable post with access to administrative duties. The apprenticeship can be started at any time.

Course content

Comprising three mandatory units:

• Plan how to manage and improve own performance in a business environment
• Review and maintain work in a business environment
• Communicate in a business environment

5 optional units can be chosen from a list of units reflecting a range of administrative roles. Advice on these will be given by D&A workplace assessor.

Qualifications achieved

Each apprentice undertaking an MA at Level 3 is required to achieve the following Qualification

• Business and Administration SVQ 3 GA41 23 (SQA)

Core skills

Each apprentice is required to achieve the following core skills for award:

• Communication SCQF 4
• Working with Others SCQF 5
• Problem Solving SCQF 5
• Information Communication Technology SCQF 4
• Numeracy SCQF 4


A minimum of one separately certificated outcome is required:

• Another optional unit from the SVQ3 in Business & Administration
• A unit from the Accounting, Customer Service, Finance, IT User and Team Leading SVQs at Level 2 or above
• A unit from any other relevant SVQs at Level 2 or above agreed in writing by the Training Provider and the CFA
• One Core Skill at a higher level
• Relevant short courses at a suitable level
• A unit from PC Passport, basic or advanced ECDL or part ECDL(three or more modules)
• Employer-devised training programmes (endorsed by CFA)
• A unit or module from a relevant professional qualification


The programmes should take 1 year to complete. Candidates will be work based and are reviewed by an assessor every 10-13 weeks throughout the duration of the programme.
