Dundee and Angus College has a long standing existing relationship with North Virginia Community College (NOVA) in the US.
An Erasmus+ funded project allowed us to expand on this relationship by providing an exchange for 6 students from each organisation to spend 3 months learning in the other organisation.
Dundee students visited NOVA during the early part of 2017 with three students each from Performing Arts and Computing and Creative Media taking advantage of the opportunity. NOVA then sent three students from similar departments to Dundee towards the end of 2017.
The 2019 study trip sees one Social Science student, Catriona Taylor, sponsored by Dundee Alexandria Twinning Association (DATA) with D&A College matching funding for one Digital Arts student, Ciaran Campbell.
Catriona and Ciaran were chosen for these opportunities after writing personal submissions on the topic “Why Me?”, then being shortlisted for, and successfully completing panel interviews. As well as the educational experience within the College, the students will get a real flavour of everyday life in Virginia as they will be living with local families during their trip.
D&A College also welcomed 2 NOVA lecturers, Dr Sue Jean Cho and Dr Martha Davis, in March 2019. With focuses on History and Performing Arts, the visitors met staff and students from D&A College; gave guest lectures plus visited Morgan Academy and Abertay University whilst learning about the city and culture.
