Healthcare Academy

22 November 2018

The Healthcare Academy is a partnership between Dundee and Angus College, NHS Tayside and the Department for Work and Pensions.

This 6-week full time pre-employment training programme will equip you with essential skills needed to apply for support services jobs across the care sector. You will spend time at D&A College and in NHS Tayside placements.

The first 2 weeks in the Healthcare Academy are spent at D&A College, receiving mandatory training in:
• Care values
• First Aid
• Health and safety awareness
• Food hygiene (REHIS)
• Infection control (REHIS)
• Manual handling (OHSAS)
• Basic IT skills

You will then spend 12 days work experience (3 placements of 4 days each) within clinical and non clinical placements across a variety of NHS Tayside locations in Dundee. Please note placements may be in areas that do not have immediate employment opportunities.

Successful completion of the Healthcare Academy will give you:
• Access to vacancies in essential support services in NHS Tayside
• A guaranteed interview when you apply for an essential support service position in NHS Tayside (if you meet job criteria)
• References from both the College and the Healthcare Academy for job applications

If you are successful in gaining a place on the course you will be required to become a PVG Scheme Member (Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups) (PVG), asked to complete an Occupational Health form and may be asked to attend a health check. All job offers are subject to a Disclosure Scotland/PVG and health check.

To apply you must be currently unemployed and registered with your local Jobcentre Plus Office
